GOOD AFTERNOON FROM ST MARY’S
Southampton host Manchester United in the Premier League with the two sides encountering differing fortunes on the opening weekend of the season.
United couldn’t have asked for a better start, thumping rivals Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford, thanks largely to a brilliant treble from Bruno Fernandes.
Paul Pogba also chipped in with four assists, although that still wasn’t good enough for Graeme Souness…
Saints were beaten 3-1 at Everton, despite leading at half-time thanks to a debut strike from summer signing Adam Armstrong.
It doesn’t bode well for the hosts today. They’ve beaten United just once in 13 league games at St Mary’s (D4, L8), while they’re winless in the past 10.
Saints have also kept just one clean sheet in their last 22 league matches, conceding 52 goals during that period.
If United avoid defeat today, they’ll match Arsenal’s top-flight record of 27 games unbeaten away from home.
We’ll have confirmation of today’s teams shortly plus lots more build-up ahead of the 2pm kick-off.
